My modest proposal to fix the US economy is simply, open immigration. The root of the financial crisis is the bust in the housing market. There is just simply too much supply currently to support housing prices. Dramatically increasing immigration quotas and policies will quickly soak up the excess supply stabilizing and perhaps even raising housing prices. The construction and real estate industries will recover, and these jobs will be restored. Jobs will be created to provide products and services to the new influx of immigrants. A positive cycle of new economic activity will begin, and the US can further maintain it’s lead as the world’s number one economy.
